Avoid Processed Foods
The Standard American Diet is full of processed and chemical-filled foods that are very damaging to the body. Brightly colored packaging and labels such as "All Natural" or "Preservative Free" are meant to lure buyers in and make these "health" foods seem healthier when in reality they are just processed junk. To be healthier, simply bring it back to the basics and eat the foods closest to nature. If it is in a package and has more than 5 ingredients, I would skip it.
Eat One Fully Raw Meal A Day
When trying to eat healthier, many people don't know where to start. As mentioned before, cutting out processed foods is one of the best things you can do for your body. Adding as much raw fruits and vegetables into your diet is just as important. Raw fruits and vegetables are what humans were designed to eat and enjoy in abundance. They are full of all the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients needed to thrive. Try eating at least one meal a day consisting of just raw fruits and vegetables. They are easier to digest when eaten alone and your body will thank you! If you can't eat one fully raw meal a day, at least try to incorporate as many raw fruits and vegetables into your diet as possible.
Start Your Day With A Large Glass of Lemon Water
Hydrating your body is essential to any healthy lifestyle. Lemon water aids digestion and helps flush toxins from your body leading to clearer skin and more energy. Lemons also contain antioxidants and nutrients that are essential to the body. Also, most people are chronically dehydrated so make sure to stay hydrated through out the day as well.
Move Your Body
Everyone knows exercise is an essential component to a healthy lifestyle but many people don't enjoy it or don't feel they have the time. Almost everyone can fit at least 30 minutes in the day and it doesn't have to be doing something you hate such as running or crunches (although I love both). Find a form of exercise that you enjoy such as dancing, boxing, or even just going for a walk! Just staying more active through out the day such as standing instead of sitting or taking the stairs can make a big difference. Exercise improves your sleep, your ability to manage stress, and has a pleathora of other benefits. So, get moving!
SLEEP
I know that when life gets hectic, sleep can be the last thing on our minds, but I cannot stress enough to you how important sleep is. Did you know that sleep and your metabolism are controlled by the same sector of the brain? When you are sleepy, the production of certain certain hormones such as cortisol goes up leading to an increase in appetite and an increase in your body's ability to store unwanted fat. Getting enough sleep also leads to improved memory skills, more creativity, lower stress, better mood, and better concentration.
Take Time to Relax and Reflect
I know most of you have very hectic lives, but taking some time everyday for yourself to just relax is very important. A healthy lifestyle does not just consist of taking care of your physical health but also your mental and spiritual health. Try to take at least 10 minutes everyday to unplug and relax. You can pray/meditate/journal/stretch or just do whatever helps you calm down and think clearly.
